The Harness Line is Field Panel II from The Old Track, depicting a procession of harness horses with drivers seated low behind them. Wheels, reins, and slender shafts repeat across the narrow composition, giving the racing field an unusually ordered rhythm.

The sulkies become part of the drawing itself: their thin circles and taut lines interrupt the heavier forms of the horses. A restrained range of sepia, worn ochre, and dark brown settles into the distressed surface, creating the impression of a sporting image softened by time.

What could be a scene of speed instead feels almost ceremonial. Animal strength and human control remain distinct, yet move forward as one continuous arrangement.

The 15 × 5-inch panoramic format holds the delicate harness details together without losing the broad, deliberate movement of the line.
