Daughters of Clay: The Old Covenant - Western Figurative Fine Art Print Set
Daughters of Clay: The Old Covenant is a two-piece fine art print set from the Daughters series, pairing I: The Root and II: The Keeping.
Against a weathered ground of clay, ash, and eroded plaster, elongated faceless women stand beneath dark, timeworn hats. Their garments appear less sewn than excavated—frayed, stained, and dissolving into the wall as though the figures have been pressed into its surface for generations.
In The Root, the women face forward in a close, severe alignment, held together by an order that feels inherited rather than chosen. The Keeping turns the figures inward, closing the space around something that must remain protected, carried, or obeyed. The movement is not from union into separation, but from public form into private obligation.
The covenant is never shown or explained. It survives through posture, proximity, and repetition—the quiet understanding that what has been handed down may also become a burden.
Sold only as a matched set, the two works are designed as a diptych and intended to hang together. Their meaning lies in the shift between them: what establishes the bond, and what remains after it must be kept.
